thuLaiAr  karu men kuzhal Aichiyar

kuzhal-What kuzhal?

In tamil when a word indicates more than one meaning, the intended meaning is conveyed through sutiable prefixes or suffixes.

For example in pari-pADAl, when the term 'vanji' is spelt out, one should first comprehend whether it reflects the 'city of vanji' or the 'tree vanji-vanji maram'. If the intention is tree, the characteristics of tree is prefixed. This can be understood from the term
"nettilai vanji"

Similarly, our nAlu kavip perumAL talks about kuzhal. kuzhal indicates a flute. It means the beautiful tress of maidens. What does it mean here. The prefix  helps us in this regard.

thuLaiyAr  karu men kuzhal -- the soft black with gaps in between. This characteristic of blackness, softness and gaps does not indicate a flute but hair.

This is what thirumangai AzhwAr says in

'thuLaiyAr karu men kuzhal Aichiyar .... ...." 3-8-8;

What a wonderful tamil!
