Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah: Srimaan Bhattar Kuzham ? 2 Srimaan Bhattar Kuzham (SBK) is taking an active role with youngsters by inculcating in them the importance of our sampradaya, its traditions, customs, and practices as well as the divine knowledge bestowed upon us through the great lineage of acharyas. SBK also engages the youth in a series of various volunteer and social services for the betterment of the local community and society as a whole. This posting highlights SBK's service towards education of the younger generation. Currently, there are about 120 students learning divyaprabandam and small stotrams. SBK began with just one student in 2000 and continues to grow exponentially. Those students who are eligible are taught Vedas ie. Suktas. Thus far, 30 students have been taught Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram. At present, SBK has a staff of five teachers ? four volunteers and one full-time employed teacher. Students are split into batches of 10-15 each, with the following team names: Kovil, Thirumalai, Perumal Koil, Tirunarayanapuram, Nachiyar Koil, SriVilliputhur, Tirucherai, and Thiruvallikeni. Older students are placed in a separate batch. The length and complexity of pasurams and stotrams are taught according to the students' ages. Thus far, the elder students have been taught Iyarpa, Nityanusandanam, some sanskrit stotrams, and suktas along with knowledge about poorvacharyas, teachings of poorvacharyas, and history of the Srirangam temple. Students are tested regularly by local teachers and by external examiners annually. They are awarded for special achievements during locally held functions. In the next posting, we will share more of Sri Bhattar Kuzham's ongoing cultural activities. ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Something is new at Yahoo! Groups.
