adiyEn has had the opportunity of hearing from great AchAryas as to what is the meaning of nAmAm thaan. etc. Actually, there was time (before many years) when everybody (All srivaishnavas) wore tiruman wherever they went. And if a person from whom they borrowed money came and asked about the money, they used to show their thiruman and say, "See this". The meaning was, mahAlakshmi, the goddess of fortune is present on my forehead. So dont worry, your money will be safely returned. But later on, this got a negative connotation, since probably people did not return the money. This was explanation given by bAshyam swami (Srirangam adhyapakar).

However, dont know why Govinda has a negative connotation!
