                              Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha

We are truly blessed to listen to upanyasams of great scholars in the
caliber of HH Vanamamalai Jeeyar Swami, Sriman U.Ve.E.Bhoovaraha
Swami, Sriman U.Ve.Velukkudi Krishnan Swami, Sriman U.Ve.M.A.Venkata
Krishnan and Sriman U.Ve.Srinidhi Swami. Their lectures are like "aRRa
amudu". Vedics organization is doing an immense kainkaryam of bringing
these scholars to our living rooms. Here is a synopsis of the last
lecture of Sri.Bhoovaraga Swami. All the credit in this write up goes
to Swamigal, and to my Acharya and all the errors are due to my
ignorance.

We heard Sriman U.Ve.E.S.Bhoovaraha Swami last Saturday who continued
His Upanyasams on Athimanushathavam. Very briefly He recapped about
the Pancha Sthavams of Kurathazvan, 1st Srivaikuntasthavam, 2nd
Athimanushsthavam, 3rd Sundarabhagusthavam, 4th Varadharajasthavam and
the last one Sristhavam. Continuing on Athimanushasthavam He covered
the last 3 slokas about Rama. The most celebrated vibhavatharas are
Rama and Krishna and there were 17 questions to Rama, with the
exception of one, the other 16 covered His 16 kalyana gunas which were
mentioned in the beginning of Srimad Valmiki Ramayana.

In the 31st Sloka, Kurathazvan praises Rama about how He took the
whole lot back with Him to Srivaikuntam, (including tree, plants
movables, unmovable etc.) at the completion of His Avatar. Kulasekara
Perumal, (azhvar) in Perumal Thirumozhi sings "anru sarasarangalai
vaikuntaththethi". But how can that be? Those achiths can't do karma
yoga, though they have jeeva they have no angas, (arms and legs) to do
karma yoga, and they all went with Perumal to Paramapatham, all
because of Your Thiruvadi sambhandam. We can safely say that Rama, and
Swami Ramanuja walked the whole length of Bharatha bhoomi and it is
considered sacred and holy and one can presume that whoever has
Acharya or Perumal Thiruvadi sambhandam, can easily attain Moksha.
Those achiths from thretha Yuga had no samsara bondage, and attained
Moksha, just by the very fact that they were from your time.

 Sloka 32

Oh! Raghava, You had won victory over the jeevathmas with Your
Kalyanagunaganas and Your enemies with Your valor. All and sundry that
couldn't bear Your separation went back with You, except Hanuman and
Vibhishana. In history there had been rare and scanty instances where
someone had declined Moksha. When Lord Aranganatha granted Moksha to
SriParasara Bhattar, He told Perumal, "If I don't see Your smiling
Thirumugam (face) there, I will rip a corner of Paramapatham and jump
back to earth. (Since we don't know that He was reborn on earth, it is
believed that He found Lord Ranganatha there). But the reasons for
Hanuman, not wanting to accompany SriRama are, "in Paramapatham
Ramayana is not savored, You will revert back to Srimannarayana, with
many Devis, while here Sita is Your Piratti. Finally "Oh Rama, you are
fearless and have won all Your enemies. Swami Desika in Raghuveera
Gadyam starts with Jaya Jaya Maha veera! You couldn't win over my
Bhakthi, You are my friend, and You have walked this earth. Without
any of this I have no taste for Moksha." Thondaradi Podi Azhvar sings
in Thirumaalai "achuvai peridum venden arangama nagarulane". Hanuman
is still living at the foot hills of Mount Himalaya where Ramayanam
chanting is going on even now. There are episodes in Mahabharata that
substantiates these events. Vibhishana who received SriRama's
kuladanam SriRanganatha didn't want to go to Moksha either. Both
Hanuman and Vibhishana had delved into the ocean of SriRama Bhakthi
and have sannidhis in SriRangam. Point to note here is Ramayana is
just not an Ithihasa; it gives meanings for all Rahasyas.

 Sloka 33
In Sloka 33 we see His Daya. While Rama, Sita and Lakshmana were
staying in Chithra kootam, an incident happened which wasn't known
even to Ilaiazhvar. Sita Piratti narrates this to Hanuman. One day
while Perumal was resting His head on Piratt's lap, the son of Indra
called Jayanthan saw Sita's beauty and developed Kama towards Her. He
came in the form of a crow and started pecking on her chest. Sita
didn't move, for fear of waking Rama. When blood from the wound
spilled on Rama's cheek, He woke up and saw what was happening.
Immediately He picked up a blade of grass and converted it to
Brahmasthram and sent it after the crow, which flew to all three
lokas, looking for somebody to give him protection. Nobody would open
their doors for him, including his parents Indrani and Indra. With no
other refuge and out of sheer exhaustion he flew back and fell at the
Thiruvadi of SriRama with his crow's feet pointing towards Rama. Jagad
Janani, Sita Piratti full of compassion and with the love of a mother
turned him around. Saranagatha vathsalan He is, SriRama accepted this
as an act of surrender, and forgave him. But once sent, Brahmasthram
should be used, so it was ordered to take off an eye of the crow.
Though the crow had committed a sinful act, due to kripa of
SriRamachandra, more so due to the presence of Sita Piratti it was
saved. We need both Perumal and Piratti to protect us; otherwise one
may end up like Ravana, Surpanaka, and Thataka.
