Dan you wrote,

Bhagavad RAmAnuja in His VaikuNTha Gadyam says
" ... praNamya utthAya punaph punaha praNamya ...." ie.
" ..prostrating many a times repeatedly by getting up and down ...".
"

Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama:

I would write a detailed mail on prostration why only once later. However,
the I recollect the words of Swami PB Annagarachar on the Vadakali
sampradayam's position of twice/four times prostrating quoting 'punaph
punaha praNamya' of Sri Vaikunta Gadyam and wish to share with the group.

At first Emberumanar when he states that he prostrating again and again,
he does not mean it literally, he is encompassed by devotion and Bhakthi,
thinking of God's virtues out of his ecstasy says punaph, punaha....

To quote you an example from PB Swami, look at the following example:

Q. Suppose one finds a long snake in the garden, what he would do?

A. He would shout ....'Snake... Snake...."..

Q Now tell me how many snakes are there?

A. Only one...in the garden.

Q. Now, just by me saying 'Snake... Snake..." can one snake become
two?....

A. No, There is only one snake.

Similarly, we should infer that the words 'Punaph, Punaha' is born out of
ecstasy and NOT in literal sense.
