Srimad Venkata Lakshmana Yativaram samsEvishIyAniSam. Dear Sriman Venkatesh, Thanks for the explanation of the word Saranagati. I have goen through stOtra ratna Telugu commentary of Sriman VaiyAkaraNa rAmAnuja iyengAr, a greta scholar from Chennai in the beginning of 20th century. In this, in the commnetary for the succeeding SlOka "udIrNa samsAra davAmSuSukshaNim", the scholar says exactly what you have said i.e. it is the mind set which is very imp. first of all, let us enjoy the scholar's commentary on the vaibhavam of anjali as glorified in tvadanghrimuddiSya SlOka. 1. Unlike hOmas like JyOtishtOma which is to be done in autumn season, krushNa paksham, and forenoon etc., anjali can be done at any time. 2. Unlike several karmas which need pre-qualifications like traivarNikatvam or belonging to brahmin/kshatriya/vaisya castes, and gruhamEdhitvam or being a householder, namaskaram to God can be done by anyone irrespective of his/her caste and marital status. 3. Unlike Yagas like AswamEdha which are very difficult to do, and where the performer needs to have a wife, namaskAram can be done by anyone and is very simple to do. 4. Unlike sevreal nitya naimittika karams prescribed by SAstras which one ought to do throughout his/her life, anjali is EkavArAnushtEyam i.e. can be done in a split second. 5. Unlike sevral karmas which give phalam in some other place and/or some other pt of time and/or some otehr birth, anjali gives instantaneous results. 6. Unlike all karmas whose results get depleted over time (ref. "kshINE puNyE martyalOkam viSanti" of Sri Krishna), anjali will leave a permanent impression in the heart of ISwara. Now, coming to the next Sloka, Sri ramanuja Iyengar says, PerumAL is so kind that He does not want the ASrita to strain in performing the physical act of anjali and mere mAnasika anjali is enough. (let us remeber "Thozhudu mAmalar nIr Sudar thUpam konadu ezhudhumennumidhi mihaiyAdhalil... " of swami Nammalwar) This mAnasika anjali is performed spontaneously, and is in the form of a droplet from the ocean of nectar called anurAgam for the charaNAravinda dvayam of BhagavAn, says Sri Iyengar. All mistakes are due to my poor understanding.
