Namskaram to all Srivaishnavas,

Champakapuri Kshetram popularly known as Sampige is a small village in
Turuvekere Taluk of Tumkur District in Karnataka. It is nearly 104 KMs from
Bangalore. The name of the place is related to Champaka Pushmam trees which
were found in this place in the ancient times.

Here an ancient Temple of Sri Srinivasa Perumal is situated which according
to the sthala puranam dates back to Krutha yuga. This place was the capital
of King Sudhanva and he worshipped Lord Srinivasa. After his rule the place
was uder ruins. The idol of Lord Srinivasa was hidden in a Valmika and
Narada accompanied by the Gandharvas used to worship the deity every night.

A villager noticed a bright light in the Valmika and to their astonishment
found the Idol of Srinivasa Perumal in it. They built a temple as it is now
in that place.

Please find the closeup shots of Champakapuri Srinivasa Perumal and
Mahalakshmi Tayar in the above link. Sri. Srinivasa Perumal is in the form
of Shankha, Chakra, Gadhadari with Sharanagathi Hastham.

Sri Champakapuri Srinivasa is the Haath Perumal of many Hebbar Srivaishnavas
including myself.

Every year 10 day Brahmotsavam festivities are held according to the
Srivaishnava tradition during May month and on the Vaishaka Shukla
Trayodashi day the Grand Car Festival and Jatra is held during which many of
the srivaishnavas from Bangalore, Tumkur, Mysore come and worship the lord
and a huge gathering of people from the villages around shows the
Popularity of the Lord. This year the Rathotsavam or the Car Festival is on
21st May.

The route to the temple from Bangalore is as below.

Travel Towards Tumkur on the National Highway 4. When you reach Tumkur take
deviation towards the road leading to Shimoga and proceed futher. You get
Gubbi Town and if you still proceed further for some kilometres you get
Nittur Cross a junction where you need to take Left turn. After proceeding
for a few furlong you have to take right turn to Sampige which is around 12
kilometres from there. You find many Coconut and Arecanut plantations on the
Way to Sampige.

Saturdays and Sundays there will Abhishekam for the lord.

There is aother important Srivaishnava temple called Kadambapuri Kshetram
nearby which is populary known as Kadaba, where an ancient temple dedicate
to Lord Jagannatha and SriRama can be found.
