There are many answers to this. In fact Kalki's coming after the previous (9th)
avatara is after a much shorter period compared to the difference between say
Kurma and Varaha avataras. This difference keeps decreasing as adharma keeps
increasing faster and the necessity for Lord to descend becomes more frequent.
There is Mahayugas of difference between consecutive avataras initially, then
it reduces. Sri Krishna belongs to end of dwapara and Kalki comes at the end of
Kaliyuga the shortest Yuga. Even in between this short period there are
amsavataras descending from time to time. So it is more correct to say that He
comes quicker and more quicker than waits long.

Alternately, the sequence of avataras can be seen as evolution of life. Matsya
- water animal, Kurma - amphibian, Varaha - land animal, Narasimha -
animal-man, Vamana - pigmie-man, Parashurama - Tamasic-Rajasic man, Rama -
Satwik man, Krishna - who speaks of dharma as eternal and dynamic and shoots
beyond mind, there are different versions that the 9th avatara is Balarama or
Buddha, but if it is Buddha we say he ascends to liberation, then Kalki - who
affects descent of divine consciousness over earth consciousness. So that is
the culmination of evolution. And initial stages in this evolution are very
slow and painful, later stages are quick. For a land animal to come to
existence from an amphibian came it takes much much longer in fact lakhs of
years. But for a spiritual man to come out of a mental man it takes thousands
of years, the gap is much smaller. Even on that count, Kalki actually comes
fast compared to previous avataras than waits for long.

Dear Aasthikaas,

Namaskaram. I would like to take the liberty of posting here a
question from my 10 year old daughter, and seek a suitable answer to
quench her curiosity.

I was explaining to her the stories of the Dasa Avathaaras and told
her that as the final and 10th Avathara, the Lord will come to the
earth at the end of Kali Yuga as Kalki Avathara and destroy the evil
forces.

She wanted to know why the Lord should wait until the very end of
Kali Yuga to do this. She asked "Why does not he come earlier and
get rid of the evil forces". I could not think of a suitable answer
and wanted some guidance in this reply.

I hope someone would show me the path.
