Dear Bhagavatas
I would like to know whether we will call the name of Bhismar
as a chiranjeevi or as a Pithama.
Pl. also clarify the meaning of Pithama.

I would like to touch upon a couple of things mentioned in the mails below.
So far as my knowledge goes, there are 7 chiranjeevis in the Srivaishnava
tradition and they are:
Ashwathama
Bali
Vyasa
Hanuman
Vibhishana
Parashurama
Kripacharya
Prahlada doesn't belong to this category. We all should be saying their
names every Saturday when we have the oil bath too.
I would agree with Kashyap Swami that there is no rebirth for anybody in
Shri Vaikuntam due to karma or praarabdham. However, they can take
incarnations as Acharyas or Azhwars out of their own volition. The case of
Jaya and Vijaya pertains to Vishnu Lokam and not Shri Vaikuntam.
Elders please clarify.

Dear friends,
I did ask HH Azhagiasingar briefly about this issue; I do stand
corrected.
As per my understanding:
1. vibhisana saranagati is for nitya kainkaryam. Probably the exact
format of this is not clearly known.
2. prahlada is a chiranjeevi and by his mahima he could be born as
vibhisana / vidura.
3. for people like prahlada, it is not possible to clearly
differentiate, whether he was a bhaktiyogi or prapannan.

A respected colleague- Kashyap swamin- has in response
to my note on charanagathi pointed out that once
moksham is afforfed by the Lord as with Vibishana by
Rama there cannot be a rebirth. I wish to point out
that this is true for the baddha jiva and not to
nithyasuris.. The dwarapalaka-jaya and Vijaya are
nithysuris of vaikundam and were cursed to be born
thrice. The Sanatkumara who cursed them for no fault
of theirs was also punished to be born along with them
but as vishnubaktha.( refHarivamsa ).Time abd again
the nithyasuris are enjoined by the Lord to take birth
in this mortal world as Azhwar, Acharya etc as part of
His LeelaMy poiint earlier was to indicate that
inherent good or bad charecterstics and prarabda karma
need not neceesarily be wiped totally when He
grants the wish of the asker in a particular
situation; Adiyen may be excused for impudence. dasan narayanan.
