Age of Vedas question: One of our gurus have answered this
question in his tattvamukta kalapa. All Vedas are anadi and nitya. Ie. never
written by anyone. Then why people say Upanishads such as
atharva shikha and svetasvetara were later Upanishads? The issue is, even though all Vedas are
eternal, some portions might have gone out of usage or the practice of acharya
sishya teaching paramparai due to the will of God. Hence some truths or mantras
came to usage only later. For example the rig veda is told to be the earliest. The
yajna prakriyas came later and hence the yajur etc came later. Long time back people
were shuddatmas. They could communicate with God due to their sattvika gunas. When
people could not do that any more during a later period, yajna prakriyas came
into existence so that people could communicate with devas / God. Then during
that time by the will of god the portion of the eternal Vedas which belonged to
the yajna prakriyas such as yajur mantras etc. came. Later came the aranyakas
and upanishadic era. This is called avirbhava tirodhana. Or coming into usage
and going out of usage over a long period of time. One thing we cannot do is
look at a problem only historically. We have to consider the power of the all
powerful who can bring something in usage and hide it from usage. Veda is apaurusheya or un written by human
beings or God. this is the traditional view. One has to read tattva mukta
kalapa in great detail. this issue is explained in the section on
buddhi sara in tattva mukta kalapa by Vedanta Desika. Hope this helps. Asmad gurubhyo namah Sarvam sri krishnarpanamastu From:
