The principles of physico-chemical modelling of the equilibrium and kinetics of dyeing process are being studied as well as the application of the aquired knowledge to the optimisation, control and computer-aided design of textile chemistry technologies.
Background
The main goal is to elucidate physico-chemical prnciples hidden in the chaos of empirical facts which have been accumulated during the whole period of commercial textile dyeing.
The methods applied rely on the achievements in physical chemistry of sorption phenomena and mathematical diffusion apparatus which involves the elements of numerical and symbolic computing.
Present Situation
More than 60 papers have been published which describe the regularities of diverse
processes taking place during textile pretreatment, dyeing, and finishing. The following
problems have been explored:
equilibrium sorption of water-soluble dyes by wool and cellulosic fibers (both molecular
and ionic mechanisms of sorption have been considered);
filtration and convective mass transfer in a layer of fibres during package dyeing;
dynamics and kinetics of package dyeing processes; the role of dye surface adsorption
rate;
linear problems of sorption kinetics and application of moments to describing fiber dyeing
processes and to the classification of mathematical models;
problems of sorption kinetics of dyeing in the case of concentration dependent diffusion
coefficient and non-linear surface adsorption isotherm;
the models of reciprocal heat and mass transfer during vapour sorption; migration of dyes
in the course of convective and dielectric drying of textiles;
multivariable approximation of data with random plan of experiment using splines and
polynomials; application of these methods for optimization of dyeing and finishing
processes.
