Perhaps I (or, even some of us) liked The Last Gentl

But what's interesting is - critics do seem to like Moviegoer best - or
maybe Last Gentleman (which made it into the hardbound Modern Library of
the
World's Best Books) - but few thought his latter novels were any good - yet
I liked them just as much or more.

I agree with you Rhonda - I loved Second Coming as a pleasurable read, for
the love story, and all the rest of it as well. Also, the female character
was more prominent and well done than his other novels I think. As for
Lancelot - it was gripping and riveting and I couldn't put it down. That
seems like it might have the most popular appeal...

I am in total agreement about Second Coming being his "best" - and I am but
a lowly man.

Thanks for posting the link Karey. I don't even think it's his best book.
Here's a discussion topic that might wake our list up: Which book is WP's
best? What makes you think so? For pure pleasure I like THE SECOND COMING
best (l like the love story: I'm a girl that way!). But as for his best,
I
cast my vote with LANCELOT. It marks a crucial turning point in his
writing,
has as strong a philosophical underpinning as MOVIEGOER, and as far as pure
literary merit, it's crafted better than the others--even MOVIEGOER. I'd
place MOVIEGOER second. What do the rest of y'all think?
