My vague memory has him linked with Mallick in some sort of family way--by marriage or something. Back when he was participating in this discussion group the topic came up. It may be back in the archives somewhere. Sorry, I doubt this is much help. I feel a bit like someone's old aunt telling a story about the brother of a friend of her sister-in-law's second cousin, but perhaps it will give Ms. Mullen a lead. --Rhonda "You live in a deranged age, more deranged than usual, because in spite of great scientific and technological advances, man has not the faintest idea of who he is or what he is doing." Does anyone have any information for Ms. Mullen or other thoughts on the subject of MG as film? Best, Henry Mills ------ Forwarded Message From: Shannon Mullen Date: Fri, 30 Oct 2009 23:09:34 -0400 To: Subject: Moviegoer Screenplay? Hello Henry, I'm a film producer based in New England, and this afternoon I was discussing Walker Percy's "The Moviegoer" with some colleagues when the subject of Terrence Mallick's adaptation came up. We'd all heard back in 1997 that he'd written a screenplay based on the book, and we're wondering whether anything has happened with the project since... Can you tell me whether you've heard any updates, and whether Mr. Mallick currently owns the book option? If not, do you know who does? Kind regards, Shannon A. At some point in the late 60s or early 70s a production might have actually commenced, with Sam Waterston (apparently a Percy fan) in the role of Binx, but this project was also shelved. The most recent news I read regarding the filming of a Percy novel was three or four years ago. Donal Logue (best known as a comic actor, I think) was signed-on to direct a film adaptation of The Second Coming, with Bill Paxton playing Will Barrett. I'm unsure as to what became of that. - enos On Sat, Oct 31, 2009 at 12:21 PM, wrote: Send Percy-L mailing list submissions to percy-l at lists.ibiblio.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/percy-l or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to percy-l-request at lists.ibiblio.org You can reach the person managing the list at percy-l-owner at lists.ibiblio.org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Percy-L digest..." Will's daughter has graduated from college and Will did not marry Marion until later - she's not in the prequel - and in the Last Gentleman he is in his mid to late 20s at least I think. I never liked the age difference between Allie and Will - it's source seemed more of middle-aged wishful thinking than anything that had anything to do about truths about life, God, or human relationships. Scarlett Johanssen (sp?) plays opposite older men frequently (Girl with the Pearl Earring, Lost in Translation) and has a maturity about her that would make her very good for the role though.
