A movie is being made about the life of John Kennedy Toole (author of A Confederacy of Dunces) based on the book "Butterfly in the Typewriter" by Corey Mclaughlin. Nick Offerman is to play Ignatius Reilly, Thomas Mann (?) will be John Kennedy Toole, with Susan Sarandon as his mother. Possibilities to play Percy (complete speculation) just based on the cast list from the article: Matthew Modine, Aidan Quinn, Carey Elwes. I've read for years of failed efforts to make a movie of Confederacy of Dunces. I think John Belushi was considered once for Ignatius; later, John Goodman. A great idea, I think, to include O'Toole's story alongside the fictive, inclusive of his mama's entreaties to Percy. It would be great if the movie gets into a bit of Percy's ideas and muse, and why ultimately he supported publication. Most of his work was set in New Orleans and around South Louisiana, including the semi-fictitious Feliciana, which the author based upon West Feliciana and the other Florida parishes. Percy?s debut novel, THE MOVIEGOER, won the National Book Award for Fiction, and was included on Time magazine?s list of the 100 Best English language novels from 1923?2005. In later works, including LOVE IN THE RUINS, THE LAST GENTLEMAN, and THE THANATOS SYNDROME, Percy continued exploring the search for meaning in an increasingly materialistic society via masterfully wrought tales delivered with a poetic Southern sensibility and informed by the author?s deep Catholic faith. > Festival proceeds support the JULIUS FREYHAN FOUNDATION ?an organization dedicated to restoring the historic Freyhan School building to serve as a community and cultural center for West Feliciana Parish. > > > The Walker Percy Weekend is presented by the Julius Freyhan Foundation, P.O.
