Hello Percy-L Community,
I am the Doug Brown mentioned in Henry's post. First, a huge thank you to
Henry for getting me set up on Percy-L and for bringing my book to the
attention of the folks in this group.
Just a quick intro of myself: I have lived in Asheville, NC, for 19 years
now and love it here very much. I make my living as a technical writer, but
I more strongly think of myself as a dog owner, trail hiker, storyteller,
and friend - and a lover of all things Asheville.
I was introduced to Percy's work years ago by a friend and immediately fell
in love with his novels and essays. I eventually wrote my master's thesis
on Percy. But beyond personal enjoyment or academic analysis, I have found
that Percy's work has been a deeply meaningful guide to me as I've come to
terms with some real struggles in my life. This sounds deadly serious, and
in some ways it is. But I also appreciate how just plain funny Percy is. He
not only renders the unspeakable speakable, he renders the unspeakable
laughable.
My book tries to capture that complex swirl of sadness and humor.
I'm here to be a part of this community, not simply hawk my book. I want to
hear about other people's encounters with Percy's writing. But if you are
interested, the book is available on Amazon in paperback or ebook.

Again, thank you to Henry and all y'all for welcoming me into the group.
