God Hid His Face
Selected Poems of RAJZEL ZYCHLINSKY

I Was Awakened
(In memory of A. Lutzky)

I was awakened today by the moon,
which suddenly stood still
in the empty sky,
and perhaps by the dead poet
who still wanders around
in the cafeteria.
With his green tie,
his book in his hand,
he wanders around
in the cafeteria.
He reads a poem to his colleagues;
he asks for advice,
crosses things out,
erases.
I still look for him there
amid the empty tables.
