Eusebius, Commentary on Isaiah
Is anyone interested in reading some Eusebius? I'm planning to travel through his commentary on Isaiah and wouldn't mind some company for the journey.

Re: Eusebius, Commentary on Isaiah
Eusebius has a very, shall we say, challenging style. I might be willing to follow along a bit.

I could make an interlinear for you, Barry, if that would help.
(Ouch!)
Yes, in my advanced Greek class back in the 90's, it was Eusebius that gave me the most trouble.

The vocabulary doesn't look too bad - at least at first blush. What is it that makes him difficult?Ken M. Penner wrote:Is anyone interested in reading some Eusebius? I'm planning to travel through his commentary on Isaiah and wouldn't mind some company for the journey.

Re: Eusebius, Commentary on Isaiah
We were assigned the section he paraphrased from Artapanus. I found indirect quotation challenging because of the multiple accusatives used with the infinitives.Thomas Dolhanty wrote:What is it that makes him difficult?
This commentary is easier in that regard!

I don't know if I could contribute much, but I am interested in tagging along - or at least setting out to see if I can get on top of his Greek. I teach a course in Isaiah, and I would be really interested in following Eusebius through the book.Ken M. Penner wrote:We were assigned the section he paraphrased from Artapanus. An e-text hyperlinked to Lampe would be better. Using LSJ is sub-optimal. I have Lampe but seldom look at it.Ken M. Penner wrote:I could make an interlinear for you, Barry, if that would help.(Ouch!)

TLG is hyperlinked to Lampe, among others. But not everyone has access to it.Stirling Bartholomew wrote:An e-text hyperlinked to Lampe would be better. Using LSJ is sub-optimal. That's good news for the folks that have to read Church Fathers. Using the hard copy is most inconvenient.Stephen Carlson wrote:

FWIW, in the first 10 lines of the Commentarius I see at least 7 words not in Lampe; they're all in LSJ.Stirling Bartholomew wrote:An e-text hyperlinked to Lampe would be better. Using LSJ is sub-optimal. I have Lampe but seldom look at it.
