Where the Birds Never Sing: The True Story of
the 92nd Signal Battalion and the Liberation of Dachau by
Jack Sacco
Jack Sacco
claims his book is the story of his late father Joe Sacco's
service in Company A, 92nd Signal Construction Battalion.
The book does
not detail under which units the 92nd served. They appear
initially to have have been in the XV Corp, Third Army then
later XV Corp, Seventh Army.
Soldiers of the 92nd
appear to have been inside the concentration camp for a very
brief period on April 29, 1945 sometime in the late afternoon
until the camp was closed to unauthorized soldiers and units
about 2000/8 PM.

The author does not appear to have
correlated or corroborated the oral histories of 92nd
soldiers with official Army records or postwar histories of
the liberation of Dachau. Nor does he appear to have had his
work reviewed by a historical scholar. His book appears to
be a novelization of many false, fabricated, exaggerated,
inaccurate accounts from many sources of what occurred on
April 29, 1945. What he wrote can is harmful as it can be
used by Holocaust deniers and historical revisionists.
