Re: Wednesday wierdness
Up here in Vancouver we had about 40 seconds of shaking, but apparently no
major damage. Because of the location of the epicenter no "tsunami"
warning was issued. Here at UBC most people stopped dead for about a
minute then things went back to normal. One of our faculty members just
kept going with her lecture ;>.
A few government buildings were evacuated, but people were allowed back in
after a short time. There are reports of power lines down, but not any
worse than after a "normal" wind storm. The news does say that the
shaking was more severe out in some of the suburbs, but again with no real
damage. We're all feeling very lucky.
I suspect all the grocery stores are hauling out their displays of the
"How to Survive the Big One" books and folks will be creating/renewing
their earthquake preparedness kits like crazy.
Cheers,
Susie
