Paul, you should have a look at the following: Robinson, T. A. 1991. Mastering Greek vocabulary, 2nd rev. ed. Peabody: Hendrickson.
Robinson's approach to teaching Greek vocabulary relies heavily on the use of English words derived from NT Greek. In chapter 1 he lists all the words that have a direct English equivalent, such as ABBA - abba, ABUSSOS - abyss, AGKURA - anchor, etc. Chapter 3 is titled "Derived English Words"; it lists words that are less directly derived. Here's one entry:
*amnesty* - (not + remember -- A + MNH [MIMV]) the granting of a pardon by forgetting acts that had brought condemnation; compare amnesia.
