Hi Scott:

For your first year of study I would recommend the single volume UBS4
Greek New Testament with the Greek-English dictionary in the back. It
contains an apparatus both for punctuation and the most important
variant readings. The dictionary contains mostly glosses, but for first
year study I don't think you really need much more, since your
concentration will be on vocabulary and grammar. I think doing extensive
word study and dabbling in textual criticism will detract you from the
skills you really need to develop in the first year. You can get the
above text from CBD at the following page:

sp=1003

There are several New Testaments there; make sure the one you get has
the dictionary with it.
