Hi Glen:

It is customary to speak of the antecedent as the word, phrase, or 
clause to which a pronoun refers. For example, in Rom 5.2 we have the 
relative pronoun hHi. It stands in place of the noun CARIN which 
precedes it in the same verse. So CARIN is the antecedent of hHi.
