This text is available on the net for the first time, both in English and in
Greek.

This was the first task in which I used my "Automatic Diacritics" script,
and I am pleased with the results. The extent to which the text was
automatically accented can be seen by looking at the unedited version (link
ephemeral):

The trick seems to be to type the text without any checking--since you
cannot predict which words will be in the database--and then to revise the
text, inserting the diacritics in the unchanged words and checking that all
the words are properly marked up. Here is the revised text:

Interestingly, the program acts as a sort of spellchecker, because a word
that does not exist in the database will get special attention. I caught
one spelling error this way.

To get the Unicode, I ran the Beta Code file through this converter.

And, the macro file is available here.

I expanded the database to include not only the NA-26 Greek New Testament
but also the complete Septuagint, the first seven books of the Antiquities
by Josephus, and a portion of the Lexicon of Photius. Unfortunately the
macro file cannot be expanded any further than about 32,000 entries. So I
was forced to include only those words that appear more than once in the
corpus. If a particular word occurs frequently in the documents that you
transcribe, you can add it to the macro file.

The NoteTab program is available here.

If you have any questions or suggestions about the "AutoBeta" program,
please contact me off-list.

best,
Peter Kirby
