Let us keep this discussion on the questions of Greek and not on someone's
interpretation or theology. I get rather nervous when some of my students
quote me.
Start the study of KOSMOS with John 1:10 EN TWi KOSMWi HN, KAI hO KOSMOS DI'
AUTOU EGENETO, KAI hO KOSMOS AUTON OUK EGNW. "He was among people, and the
created order was made through him, and the world of human beings apart from
God knew him not."
Louw and Nida (they are honoring Nida at SBL in Toronto) has an excellent
discussion of all the references of this word group in the Greek-English
Lexicon according to Semantic Domains. Keep in mind that we get our word
"cosmetic" from this word.
I hope we are done with a world of hurricanes in Louisiana. I left New
Orleans last Wed. night to avoid Lilli and wound up in the eye of it in
Pineville Thursday. I was fortunate in that I only have to repair some damage
to my roof.
