 ISTM that it means that the length of the *total period* had been shortened
 by being terminated prematurely, to put an end to the sufferings of the
 people involved. In other words, God will intervene to stop the QLIYIS in
 mid-course.

 hAI hHMERAI EKEINAI stands for "that period of time" rather than "those
 particular individual days".
