Mike:
Verse 31, by using the plural, indicates that Satan wanted ALL of the disciples, but verse 32 indicates, by using a singular, that God only permitted him to have Peter to sift. You can confirm this to some degree by watching John and Peter at the trial. Peter was full of fear (compare 2 Tim. 1:7 where fear is the result of Satan/demons), but John entered in without fear, etc. It seems that Satan cannot tempt God's people without permission as Job and 1 Cor 10:13 would also indicate.
