<doug>
i'm just wrapping up teaching a class at my church using
mounce. i had about 20 sign up for the course and about 6
remained, none of which actually read or did exercises or
quizzes (i.e., they only came to lecture). i just always
went on the assumption that if they really want to learn
greek, they'll do the work. nothing i can do as a teacher
can make them put in the time since they are not paying
for the class and are getting no credit. the only benefit
for them would be to learn greek. if they found that this
was something that they really wanted and it is a high
priority for them, then they'll make time for it and
discipline themselves to learn it. i find that we always
make time for things that are important to us, are high on
our priorities, and we value. anyway, that was what i had
to keep reminding myself about as people dropped right and
left and were not nearly as excited and disciplined about
the class as i was. it can become very discouraging.

anyway, this is the first time i've been through mounce
and i loved it. i honestly don't know how i ever learned
greek with the texts i used before. i initially learned
using "language of the NT" which was ridiculously
unorganized. then i went through david black's "Learn to
Read New Testament Greek." this was a bit more organized
but too abbreviated. after starting mounce i looked at
summers' and machen's grammars and was equally
disappointed. none of them make learning the language as
simple as mounce.

anyway, i made slides and handouts and such that if you're
interested drop me a line and i'll be glad to send you
whatever i have. that was another strength of mounce is
that if you go to his website (www.teknia.com) you can
find all sorts of resources. he has quizzes, summary,
overhead examples, quicktime movies of his slides with him
teaching, etc. all free. it makes it really easy for
someone to teach the class. so let me know and i'll be
glad to send you what i've created and let you know some
ideas of what i did when teaching the class.
