Classical scholar/translator Richmond Lattimore, in the preface to his
translation of the Revelation and the Gospels, wrote: "It was while I
was teaching various Greek texts to beginning students that I was struck
by the natural ease with which Revelation turned itself into English."
That was enough to motivate me, as an amateur Greek student, to try my
hand at reading it after the Johannine ("easy") writings, and found it
to be easy and enjoyable. In fact, toward the end of the Greek class I
taught at church this year, I had the students open their GNT to The
Apocalypse and over the course of a few weeks we sight-read the
introduction and several of the letters to the seven churches, with me
helping them with grammar and unknown words.
