Re SUNEIDHSIS Charles Savelle asks "1. Are you aware of any
Greek synonyms to this term?"
Perseus gives as words with similar meaning to SUNEIDHSIS
(self-consciousness, conscience) in LSJ, which has already
been consulted by Charles, "PARAKOLOUQHSIS, SUNOIDA,
SUNANAMIXIS, SUGGRAMMATEUW, DUSSUNEIDHTOS".
2. Do you think that the translation "conscience" best conveys
the sense
of
the term? Why or why not?
It depends on the context. BDAG (p 967-8) gives three principal
meanings: (1) awareness of information about someth.,
consciousness, (2) the inward faculty of distinguishing right and
wrong, moral consciousness, conscience and (3) attentiveness
to obligation, conscientiousness.
Happy St Patrick's day to all!.
