Hi Noel,
>I would very much like to know what commonly available English
>translation is considered closest to the Greek New Testament (UBS,
>4th Revised Edition).
For free, you might examine the following:
Gary Zeolla's Analytical-Literal Translation NT (ALT, 2001, uses Byzantine Majority Text 2001 Ed.)
Jay Green's Literal Translation (LITV, 2000 Ed uses 2000 NT and 1985 OT)
Concordant Literal NT (CLV, 1965, uses its Concordant GNT)
Amplified Bible (AB, 1965, uses Westcott & Hort and Nestle GNT)
www.dtl.org/alt
www.litvonline.com and www.chrlitworld.com
www.concordant.org (recommended to me by Dennis Hukel)
www.gospelcom.net/lockman/amplified (unsure if this website includes its footnotes)
See www.geocities.com/bible_translation/english.htm for more
For your wallet, parallel texts using the UBS 4th Revised Ed are:
Greek New Testament Parallel Edition, Zondervan, 1993, ISBN: 0310414008
The Precise Parallel New Testament, Oxford Uni Press, 1996, ISBN: 0-19-528412-7
