The answer to your first question is a qualified yes. For example,
(1) I gave the wall a second coat of paint.
Note that "the wall" is a real object as it can be passivized:
(2) The workmen gave the wall a second coat of paint yesterday.
The answer to your second question is no, but the answer is complicated
and I will answer it in commenting on the other replies to your post.
