Gulp! Another correction of a sentence that says exactly the opposite of
what I intended when I wrote it. I had better do a better job of
proofreading.

I wrote:

That SHOULD read:

"To me, at least, it seems that the author is asserting that
instruction that HAS been watered-down or weakened might allow for a
less rigorous review of the character of potential elders, ...'
