Hello,
I realize this topic could easily wonder off into issues regarding theology (feel free to email me off-list if you'd like to discuss this), but I thought I'd ask it. I have talked to some people who say that "foreknow" or "foreknowledge" doesn't mean that God "knew before hand" but because of such passages as Acts 2:23 which according to the Granville Sharp rule, ties "forknowledge" with God's "determinate counsel, "hWRISMENH BOULH KAI PROGVWSEI" so I'm wondering what is the best definition of PROGINWSKW, PROGNWSIS, etc. in the NewTestament and if perhaps, are there any writings which are contemporary w/ the NT which would have the word as well in it? I realize I need to get the BAGD lexicon (Baur, Art, Gingrich, etc. not sure if I have the names correct) but I haven't gotten it yet. Thankyou for your time, and if you feel this should be discussed off-list feel free to email me at notchking at yahoo.com. James R. White who seems to be quite learned in Koine teaches that the
word(s) doesn't mean "God just looked in the past" but that He actually made it happen. Thanks again,
in Christ,
Jonathan B. Ferguson
