Dear Friends,
I need some clarification on the syntactical structure of Mt 5:3.
How would one describe the first line grammatically? "Blessed [are] the poor
in spirit". It seems the sentence does not follow the usual convention that
the complement drops the article (and stands before the verb, e.g. Colwell).
Instead, the complement here comes with the article. Is this a special form
associated with blessings? Or is there another grammatical convention?
I will really appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Johan Ferreira
