[B-Greek] Beginning Greek texts

Hey, Bill. Congratulations on the difficult but rewarding task you're
starting.

A suggestion: nothing strengthened / refreshed my Greek like teaching it to
others. Is there anyone you can teach Greek to? Or can you make relearning
it a game where you're trying to learn the material so as to explain it to
someone else?

During a rather difficult oral Greek exam--I got a B+ for the course--Alan
Culpepper told me that he didn't think anyone REALLY learned Greek until
they tried to teach it and explain it to students.

Anyway: I've taught with Mounce (1st ed), Machen, and Adam. Of the three
that I've TAUGHT WITH, I prefer Mounce. It works well for a seminary /
college class in NT Greek. It's well laid-out and executed, and fairly easy
to follow. Adam is fascinating in theory and concept but (IMHO) didn't work
well in practice.

As to which approach produces the strongest Greek readers, I don't have an
answer. Theoretically, I think the more inductive approaches offer more
promise. I've always wished I had the guts to try the Athenaze series, but
haven't pulled the trigger on that one. YET.

I'll be using the revised Mounce this fall. And I'm REALLY looking forward
to refreshing my own Greek in the process!

I have perused enough archived threads almost to despair asking this
question, but here goes anyway. What beginning Greek grammar and/or method
of learning do you recommend for one seeking to re-learn his lost seminary
Greek? Or, does the particular grammar matter as much as one simply giving
oneself wholeheartedly to the language?

I have Mounce's revised edition and considered purchasing his full lectures
($89). Any comments? I need to be convinced of what direction to take.
