Hi Everyone,
I’ve been subscribed for some time but have never posted.
My question is in regards to Acts 22:9 where it says THN DE FWNHN OUK
HKOUSAN TOU LALOUNTOS MOI.
A literal translation seems to be “but the voice they did not hear of
the one speaking to me.” The NRSV and several other translations I
checked (NKJB, CEV, NJB, NEB) keep HKOUSAN as “hear” however the NIV and
ESV translate the word as “understand.” Can HKOUSAN in this context be
understood as “understand,” or is it translated this way in the NIV and
ESV to harmonise it with Saul’s conversion in Acts 9, especially 9:7?
Thanks,
Joe Capuana
