"KATA"
This is a simple genitive preposition. It simply means "downward
action" and in the genitive has a inference of "downward motion from
above" or in this context "against" is perfectly fine and suits the
purpose. This was taken from Liddell & Scott "Greek English Lexicon"
9th Edition with Supplement and from the BDAG 3rd edition.

The UBS Translator's Handbook series comments on Gal 5.23 as follows:
What he probably means is that the law just has no part to play
in the realm of the Spirit. The law exists for restraint, but there is
nothing to restrain in these qualities. This meaning is reflected in
NEB: "There is no law dealing with such things as these." One may also
translate as "The laws do not even speak about such matters as these,"
or "These actions are not even contained in any of the laws."

Paul's letter to the Galatians. Originally
published under title: A translator's Handbook on Paul's
letter to the Galatians. c1976. UBS handbook
series; Helps for translators (Ga 5:23). New York: United
Bible Societies.

KATA TWN TOIOUTWN OUK ESTIN NOMOS

"against such there is no law"

What does KATA mean here? I don't understand how to
take "against" in this context.
