I've been playing around with the sound a bit and was thinking the same 
thing. I also found a site with some classical Greek pronunciation and the speaker 
sounded more like "ahee" than "eye". I think I'm going to go with the "ahee" 
sound for the sake of having the Strong's as a resource that uses it.

I SURE would like to know a bit more about James Strong's backroung in Greek, 
compared to some of the more modern grammars and lexicons.
