My question involves the differing readings of ANEPILHMPTON/ANEPILHPTON in 1
Timothy 3:2, but it is not primarily (to my mind, at least) a question of
textual criticism. First, the passage.

DEI OUN TON EPISKOPON ANEPILHMPTON EINAI MIAS GUNAIKOS ANDRA NHFALION
SWFRONA KOSMION FILOXENON DIDAKTIKON

At what point did the reading ANEPILHMPTON arise?
The current reading goes back at least to Tischendorf.

Liddell-Scott (Perseus, LSJ; BibleWorks, LS Abridged) does not recognize
this form with its retention of the Mu.
It is an alternate spelling of the same word. The root word is
still ANEPILHPTOS, from LHPTOS. Literally, it would
mean (not) peeled-back or wide-open (i.e., for criticism).
The B-Greek archives show that there was a discussion of
the use of ANEPILHMPTON several years ago, but that
talk centered on whether ANE. was to be seen as the
first item of a list or whether ANE. was intended by the
author to be a singular "qualification," of which the items
that follow are descriptive.
