I mentioned it to Mark privately, but I'll put it up here in case others
might be interested.
I own all Metzger's major books and some books about transmission and
paleography and whatnot, but here is my favorite recent summary/reference,
the title says it all.
The Journey from Texts to Translations: The Origin and Development of the
Bible by Paul D. Wegner
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0801021693/qid%3D1086309459/sr%3D11-1
/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-8589447-9150519
The ISBN is 0801021693. The book is so engaging that I read it like a novel
when it first came out, I think in 2001 or so. I think it is helpful also
to those who do not have background in biblical studies and ancient
languages.
Bless the Name
Curtis

I'm guessing regarding what you mean so I may not be addressing your
question.
It sounds as though you think that the text was originally all in lower case
letters (such manuscripts are known as minuscules). This is not the case.
The early manuscripts were in all capitals (known as uncials).
