Dear Carl.
> >The word KLHRONOMIA means "inheritance" or "possession." Does anyone
>>know if its derivation involves a combination of roots like KLHROS,
>>"lot," and VOMOS, "law"? The idea would be the lot that one had by
>>law. For example, the first son received a double portion of the
>>inheritance by law at one point.

>I assume you mean "NOMOS" when you write "VOMOS." LSJ derives it from
>KLHROS and NEMOMAI, which latter element has several senses including
>allot/distribute, acquire by allotment, etc. You might want to check it out
HH: Thanks. I had checked it out, but I was looking for the word
derivation at the beginning of the article, so under KLHRONOMEW. Nor
was it under KLHRONOMIA or several other words. But near the end of
the article, under KLHRONOMOS the word NEMOMAI appears in
parentheses. I am glad to have the information.
Yours,
Harold Holmyard
