The fact is that I've never read Palmer's book on The Greek Language; I was
disappointed many years ago in is book on The Latin Language and never
thought to look at the other one. Perhaps I should, seeing it's available
in a paperback format. The book that I have found most informative on the
history of the Greek language is Geoffrey Horrocks, _Greek: A History of
the Language and Its Speakers_ (Longman Linguistics Library)--and now I see
that's out of print with only limited availability.
