Nicoll, W. Robertson, ed. The expositor's Greek Testament. Vol. I-V. Grand
Rapids, MI: Eerdmans, 1961.

I have a copy of this five volume set re-printed by Eerdmans in 1961. The
books are edited by Nicoll, but each book of the NT has a different author
of the notes. Each book also has an English introduction. The preface
credits the work of Alford from 1841-1860 as the base for the book. So the
material is dated.

The main text is the Greek with good cross reference notes. The comments
occupy about 2/3 of the page very small type two column format. They offer
commentary on Greek grammar issues. There is also occasional references to
Hebrew as needed. There is extensive cultural and cross reference
commentary as well. The references to classical literature and parallel
myths is also interesting. I have not noticed a strong theological bent in
the commentary myself. I would say at least of year of Greek study would be
needed to follow the commentary, more is obviously better.

I have found this set very useful.
