Hi,
I'm new to the list. I'm a Greek student of about five years but haven't had the
advantage of learning in a classroom setting so I've pretty much been learning
on my own through books and other resources. I have an issue I was wondering if
someone could help me out with.
In Daniel B. Wallace's work, "Greek Grammar Beyond the basics", which I'm sure
many on this list are familiar with, Wallace indicates that the vast majority of
anarthrous pre-verbal predicate nominatives are to be taken qualitatively rather
than definite or indefinite. The ratio is supposedly 80% qualitative, 20%
definite with a very few being indefinite. I ran a search in Bible Works 6.0 for
all occurrences of this construction but I don't seem to be coming up with the
same numbers.
It may well be that my criteria is erroneous in some way. The search criteia I'm
using is as follows:
All nominative singular nouns not preceded by the article and preceding EIMI,
GINOMAI or HUPARCW
Is this correct or might there be a deficiency somewhere?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Rob
