Hi Folks,
I'm a satisfied owner of "Max and Mary", i.e., "A Grammatical Analysis of
the Greek New Testament" by Max Zerwick and Mary Grosvenor. Published in
1981, it has no edition number, so I guess it's the first edition.
Recently my satisfaction has dimmed somewhat when I came across a rather
elementary error at I Jn 2:28. KAI NUN, TEKNIA, MENETE EN AUTWi, hINA EAN
FANERWQHi SCWMEN PARRHSIAN KAI MH AISCUNQWMEN AP' AUTOU EN THi PAROUSIAi
AUTOU. Max and Mary comments as follows in part:
SCWMEN aor2 subj. ECW, subj. hort.
They make no comment about AISCUNQWMEN except to parce it as aor pass
subj.
This is not the hortatory subjunctive, of course. It's the subj. required
in a purpose clause introduced by hINA. Now this got me thinking whether
it might be worth my while to purchase the latest edition (the fifth, I
think) where such errors presumably have been corrected.
So I'd like to ask a favor of the list members. Would those of you who
have the fifth edition please write to me (off-list) and give me a brief
summary of the preface(s) from the fifth edition so I can determine
whether I should invest in that volume. I would also value your own
opinion of the latest edition as well. I thank the members for their
indulgence.
Yours in His grace,
