So using an interlinear is dishonest? This appears to me to be pretty
sstrong. I know Attic and Koine, and every once in a while I grab an
interlinear just to get me started. I didn't know it was vice as well;
perhaps I ought to repent. : ) People should use anything they find
helpful to get them to their goal. What works for one doesn't for
another. A teacher knows this.
As for people who say "the Greek says" - this is totally unnecessary;
lacks imagination and somewhat showy. I give a complete exposition of
Parmenides' Poem to my students and I don't once mention "the Greek
says" but they get a rich, sophisticated exposition based on
scholarship. Instead of saying "it's the accusative of goal in the
Greek" just say "we should do it for this reason, a goal."
