[B-Greek] new guy, first question

Greetings all...

Ive finally decided (before my cerebelum fossilizes) to get serious and
really learn koine greek. One of the holdups was that I couldn't decide on
a pronunciation method. I came to the conclusion that the erasmian
scheme is arbitrary and status quo, (not to mention very clunky and barbaric
compared to modern greek or to Randall Buth's system) and that I would really like
to learn something living, and potentially useful in day to day life, so I have decided
to go with the modern pronunciation. Actually, I do know the academic pronunciation,
just from memorizing the alphabet and my limited vocabulary in koine.

My question has to do with the grammer. Should I ignore modern greek grammers
and just focus on using something standard like Mounce, while using my preferred
pronunciation, or should I learn BOTH the modern grammer and the koine grammer?

For Bible study I dont really see a compelling reason to learn the modern grammer just
because Im using modern pronunciation (unless the modern grammer and koine grammer
are so similar that it is not going to be a big leap between the two).

Can someone please advise?

And let me THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for any replies.

Great forum, Ive found a lot of help here already, esp. the recent discussion on pronunciation.
