Ahhh ..., so I misunderstood the original! It never occurred to me  
that it was a mis-statement. I had thought this was the archaizing  
equivalent of "I wish that you or Ivar Larsen could ..." as in the  
old version of the opening line of Euripides' Medea: "Would that an  
embargo had kept in port the good ship Argo!"
