The regular verbs would be Mounce's category v-1 (see MBG), in which the
present stem = verbal root.
These stems end in consonantal iota or digamma (v-1a), in a stop (v-1b), a
liquid or nasal (v-1c) or a vowel (v-1d).
Roots ending in:
I: 4
AI: 2
EI: 2
U: 19
AU: 3
EU: 81 that keep the U in the present
OU: 3
Labial: 19
Velar: 34 (not counting DOKEW)
Dental: 19 (not counting WQEW)
Liquid: 7
Nasal: 22
A>H: 62
A: 19
E>H: 228
E: 10
O>W: 104
The above totals 638, but Mounce footnotes peculiarities for at least 60 of
these (e.g. GINOMAI is included as a nasal root, but its stem is far from
consistent). Note that compounds are not each counted individually (LUW,
KATALUW, EKLUW, etc. are counted as one).
Mounce's class v-1 is "the largest category of verbs" but I don't know what
the total of irregular verbs would be.
