[B-Greek] On "picking up a language"

There was some discussion on the list over the last few weeks on
comparision of language learning techniques and what happens in
'immersion' settings. I've cited a very short article by Stephen
Krashen with a remarkable story about a Mexican immigrant to
California, yes, he worked in a restaurant, and no, it doesn't say if
he had a greencard. What is remarkable is that he learned Hebrew, and
learned it to a remarkable level, "near-native".

(Stephen Krashen is a recognised second language aquisition theorist.
He would argue that the two most important factors in 'Armando's'
success were comprehensible imput and a relaxed friendly atmosphere.) 

Enjoy. And keep in perspective: Armando took years, not months. Be
encouraged and pray for opportunities.
